Alias is an alternative product definition, name, image, description, etc., for an existing inventory item. An Alternate SKU creates a secondary SKU for an existing inventory item keeping the same product definition. Because we are dealing with the same inventory item, when there is a sale of whether; the alias version, or the Alt SKU version, or the master product; the master product's quantity will be decreased.
* Aliases are useful when you need to send an alternative product definition for a product to the same channel, which allows you to create multiple listings of a product.
** Alternate SKUs are useful when you have a bestseller product, and the manufacturer made a minimal modification to it. They have to change the name barcode and SKU number, but you can easily assign the old product’s SKU number with the help of Alternate SKU.
**Alternate SKUs are also useful when you are selling the product both on FBA and FBM, because you can assign a different SKU for both, and monitor your sales performance in both Channels. StoreAutomator gets FBA product's quantity from Amazon, and combines it with your on hand quantity and shows you the combined quantity.
*** The difference between Alias and Alternate SKU is that you cannot edit properties of Alternate SKU listing, but you can edit properties for Aliases. Both SKU types share the same inventory.
